I am hearing alot of complaints not enough consideration of Brooklyn campus would like the same classes of Computers, same kindness as the Manhattan campus
I have found the administrative staff to be extremely helpful and a majority of the professors to be easily accessible as well as fair in grading and respectful with both positive and negative feedback. (There was one professor that was not local, delaying response time. Another professor was only part time and seemed very inexperienced at communicating with students.) I had previously attended two community colleges and did not receive the same level of courtesy and help as I have gotten at ESC.
I had been grateful to find a program that allowed me in-person and online options, but greatly regret this decision, as I have come too far to transfer but not far enough to be done.
I am receiving my Bachelor's in Business and Art from ESC to fulfill my dream of running my own art gallery and/or museum. Originally I was going to focus in accounting, but the required Educational Planning class I completed with my mentor (she is fantastic!) helped me be honest with myself about what I really wish to do with my life, rather than going into a career I knew I would not be happy with. That is the best part about ESC; getting to create your own degree program around what YOU want to do, while following basic educational guidelines.
As for the Financial Aide Process, be prepared for a lot of headaches as well! You will have confirmation of a course approval, see your FAFSA arrangement, and the day of your courses beginning you will be dropped because of one thing or another - which requires a manual registration - and then you scrambling to submit documents (that they found out that weekend were missing, and instead of giving you notice, simply drop you from the course without warning.) This happens often.
I have had a wonderful experience with Empire State College. I felt really fortunate to get connected with the school and they worked with me to really personalize my degree for my skills, experience, and need. You have to be self motivated and ready to work hard on your own, and it really worked for me. I'm graduating in under 2 years.
Cannot wait to just be done. Every thing is convoluted and a long process I never dealt with in any other college or university. The mentors are barely knowledgeable about the questions you ask, and send you to someone else. The professors literally plagiarize already created modules and lessons, with incorrect dates, but want to nitpick incorrect citations (even though you at least cited the source.) "Nit picking" should be their motto. Plenty of other online and face to face programs to choose from, and I suggest them (except Ashford University, which is simply a scam.)
I highly recommend ESC to anyone that requires a flexible schedule because of family or work life. As well as to those looking for a change or vast improvement to their lives. ESC offers many different avenues of learning to fit anyone's busy life. I have learned so much in my studies here and have been given the opportunity to grow and flourish than I ever have been in my life before.
Great programs!
